Golden Beach Plaza:A Symphony of Light, Art, and Coastal Identity

When Shadows Dimmed the Shoreline’s Soul
Yantai’s Golden Beach, a 2-kilometer stretch of coastline, once faded into obscurity after sunset. Sparse road lamps cast fragmented light, leaving swimmers vulnerable and the ocean’s beauty unseen. Beyond illumination, the space lacked identity—its potential as a cultural canvas drowned in monotony. The challenge was clear: re-imagine the shore as a seamless blend of safety, artistry, and ecological harmony.

Crafting a Luminous Ecosystem: Where Every Element Tells a Story

OLP’s vision transformed the beach into an interactive gallery of light and form. FishTail Canopies arched gracefully above walkways, their 5-meter-high columns embedded with cascading LED “raindrop” lights, merging structural elegance with ambient guidance. SnailShaped Seating spiraled along pathways, their stainless steel shells reflecting moonlight while offering ergonomic comfort.

At the heart of the design lay the Dune Wind Sculptures—kinetic installations with rotating 316L stainless steel blades. By day, they mimicked desert dunes; by night, integrated LED strips cast dynamic shadows, evoking waves under starlight. Nearby, the Breakthrough Sculptures rose as angular sentinels, their 30°slope cut optimizing light refraction to reveal hidden chromatic layers beneath silver gray fluorocarbon finishes.

Safety met artistry in the Lifeguard Watchtowers, redesigned with enclosed staircases and anti-slip basalt treads. Their platforms now hosted recessed Pebbles-shaped down lights, ensuring 24/7 visibility without glare. For playful charm, Windmill Lanterns dotted the dunes—slim -profile fixtures with aviation-grade aluminum brackets, their blades doubling as light diffusers.

Modularity reigned supreme: Mobile Planter Pods with interchangeable 316L steel “petals” allowed seasonal floral displays, while WaveInspired Railings incorporated gentle curves and phosphorescent inlays for nocturnal guidance. Even functional elements like trash bins and signage adopted seamless welds and Inlaid technique inspired by the gold and silver inlay process, elevating utility to art.

Precision in Numbers: Engineering Coastal Resilience

  •  1,840 Custom Fixtures: Including 234 windmill lanterns, 45 sculptural clusters, and 620 anti-corrosive IP66 luminaires.
  •  Material Mastery: 316L stainless steel, Q355GNH weathering steel, and sand-resistant fluoropolymer coatings ensured durability against salt spray and typhoon force winds.
  •  Energy Intelligence: Adaptive DALI controls reduced consumption by 38%, synchronizing light levels with tidal patterns (0.8m–2.26m extremes).
  •  Rapid Assembly: 92% prefabrication rate—from 10meter tapered light poles to modular concrete platforms—slashed onsite construction by 60 days.

Echoes from the Coast: Partners and People

“The dunes now breathe with light. OLP didn’t just install fixtures—they composed a nocturne.”

—Yantai Coastal Planning Commission

“Children chase the windmill shadows, couples linger under the canopies—this is how public space should feel.”

—Local Tourism Board

A Legacy Beyond Illumination

Golden Beach Plaza has redefined Yantai’s nocturnal identity. Evening footfall surged by 72%, while the project’s fusion of low-carbon materials (100% recyclable steel) and habitat-sensitive lighting earned it the 2025 Asia-Pacific Urban Innovation Award. More than a destination, it’s a testament to how light and art can awaken a shoreline’s soul—one sculpted wave, one glowing railing, at a time.
